Rex Jaeschke, a specialist in programming languages, is running a workshop on programming languages and environments on SFS premises in Helsinki in June.
The objective of this half-day workshop is to bring together both the users and the developers of programming languages to exchange their experiences. The issue of standardization will also be discussed. The workshop is open for all programming language experts, but the main focus will be on C++.
Mr. Jaeschke will speak about different Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs). He will explain their roles and give reasons why IT people should care or get involved with standardization. He will also compare some programming languages and their advantages and disadvantages.
Ville Voutilainen, a member of the C++ standardization working group ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG 21, will talk about the new revision of the C++ standard, highlighting specific technical details.
The workshop will be interactive and the audience will have plenty of opportunity to be involved and to ask questions about programming languages and environments.

Rex Jaeschke
Rex Jaeschke is an independent consultant, author, and a leader and designer of seminars, specializing in the programming languages C, C++, C++/CLI, C#, Java™, and Visual Basic .NET™. He has extensive experience with a variety of platforms. Rex has worked in the software industry since January 1976. In his early programming days, he wrote a lot of Basic, Fortran, and Cobol code, as well as documentation. Over a 25-year period, Rex has been involved in a number of U.S. and international standards committees.
Ville Voutilainen
Ville Voutilainen, of Ixonos Plc., is a seasoned C++ expert with over 15 years of C++ experience. He has been the Head of Delegation of Finland in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG 21 since February 2009, and continues to have an active role in the standardization of C++.

The Finnish Standards Association SFS is the national standardization body in Finland. SFS is a member of the International Organization for Standardization ISO and the European Committee for Standardization CEN. SFS publishes and sells SFS, CEN, ISO and its member bodies publications, coordinates the preparation of Finnish standards and promotes the adoption and application of standards.
